Monticello, Illinois, a city of 6,000 residents, is located on I-72 between Champaign-Urbana and Decatur. The twin cities have over 100,000 population while Decatur has over 80,000.
The University of Illinois Allerton Park, recently named one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois, is just outside Monticello. The 1,500 acre park serves as a conference and nature center.
Champaign is the home of the University of Illinois, Parkland College, Decatur has James Millikin University and Richland College. Monticello is about 50 miles from Eastern Illinois University and Illinois State University.
The local Monticello public school system has always been highly rated as an academic institution. Recently, they have received recognition from the State of Illinois for their performance on tests.
